This Is My Work

I am Gian Schauer.

I design shirts, onesies, and hoodies that let kids be fierce and sweet at the same time, for parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles who see the children in their lives as whole people.

I believe no child should grow up thinking she is something to be hunted instead of something powerful, and that the smallest details — the movies we play, the clothes we dress them in — quietly teach kids who they are allowed to be.

Through noticing that predators in kids' films are overwhelmingly male and prey overwhelmingly female, I have learned that the stories we hand children shape the shape of their courage, and that my granddaughter, and every child like her, deserves better than a world that boxes her into just one half of herself.

What I Want You to Know

Your kid does not have to choose between fierce and sweet. She can be both, at once, unapologetically, and the clothes she wears every day can remind her of that every time she looks in the mirror. Your son doesn't have to choose either. He can wear the jackrabbit as easily as the lion, and be gentle in both.

Everything I Make

Every collection starts with a critter, and every critter carries both halves of the idea on purpose:

  • Lions — "Roar-alty"
  • Sharks — "Bite size"
  • Tigers — "Purrfectly fierce"
  • Alligators — "See ya later"
  • Snakes — "Hugs and hisses"
  • Spiders — "Itsy bitsy"

Each one comes across infant tees, toddler tees, long sleeves, onesies, and hoodies — the same design, offered the same way, to any kid. No "boys' side." No "girls' side." Just the animal a kid already loves, waiting for them.

None of it is mass-produced in bulk and stockpiled, hoping someone buys it. It's designed in Santa Fe and made to order, by a grandmother who started this because the rack didn't have what her own family needed. I'm still building one collection at a time for exactly that reason.
